What are through-hole LEDs?

Through-hole LEDs are small bullet-shaped LED lights. These LEDs are also known as tower, lead frame, or round LEDs. The bullet-shaped resin encapsulant doubles as a lens, emitting bright light at specific angles.

While mainly used in light displays, the unique characteristics of through-hole LEDs are perfect for traffic signals and boards on railroads and roads, in price signs at gas stations, and in other situations.

2.Custom through-hole LEDs available

Through-hole LEDs were once commonplace, grew less popular over time until production ceased altogether. These LEDS are now extremely hard to come by, especially those used in pilot lamps and display units, as well as ceramic-type and can-type LEDs. Toricon accepts custom-made orders to manufacture replicas following nearly the same standards of these now hard-to-come-by LEDs. Small batches are available for order (minimum of 1,000 pieces; for smaller quantities, please contact us).

New Through-hole LEDs Developed Through Toricon R&D

Low-Beam LEDs

Conventional through-hole LEDs emit light horizontally. Our new Low-Beam LEDs, developed through extensive research, have a unique resin encapsulant shaped to reflect LED light internally. This design angles the resulting beams to extend downward. Electric panels installed on roads have a vanishing point, or blind spot, where the light disappears from sight as drivers draw closer to the panel. Replacing these lights with Low-Beam LEDs shortens the distance of this vanishing point.

Half-Chroma LEDs

After extensive research, Toricon developed pastel color LEDs called Half-Chroma LEDs.
We manufacture Half-Chroma LEDs in 30 different colors, including ice blue, lime, lemon yellow, azalea, purple, pink, and cherry white.

Mild-Glare LEDs

Introducing Mild-Glare—the world’s first reduced-glare LED. The harsh glare of conventional through-hole LEDs is not suitable for constant use in indoor illuminations.
Through our research, Toricon succeeded in developing through-hole LEDs with reduced brightness for use indoors.
