A garden lantern

Garden lanterns are traditional Japanese lighting elements that bring dignity to garden spaces and symbolize purification. Craftsmen carve each RAKUTEI garden lantern from kimachiishi stones, a material unique to Izumo.

Tsukubai (a stone washbasin)

A tsukubai is a stone washbasin used to cleanse the hands before entering a tea room. This basin is typically placed in the roji, the garden path leading to the tea room. The name tsukubai comes from the posture used when washing one’s hands, which requires bending down close to the basin.

Samon

Samon are sand patterns that represent the movement of water and waves in Japanese gardens through abstract forms. Creating these patterns can calm the mind and encourage quiet reflection. RAKUTEI gardens use finely textured gravel ideal for this traditional technique.

Vase
